During the holiday season, we often weave in our traditions and heritage as we celebrate. Stallings’ heritage is a part of Union County’s history. Stallings, one of 15 municipalities in Union County, is thankful its journey is a part of Union County.
Formed in 1842 from parts of Mecklenburg and Anson counties, Union County’s very name—Union—represents a compromise between the Whigs and Democrats. The Democrats wanted its name to be Andrew Jackson, while the Whigs preferred Henry Clay. Ultimately, they settled on the name "Union" to reflect their collaboration. From its earliest days, the County thrived on agriculture, small-town life, and families who built their lives from the land.
As the County grew, so did the towns that now give Union County its character. The county seat, Monroe (named after President James Monroe), became a bustling center of commerce once the railroads arrived. As the region expanded, Stallings and other communities transformed from rural crossroads into vibrant residential areas.
Today, Union County is a blend of old and new—historic downtowns, family farms, modern neighborhoods, and growing business districts. Each town contributes something unique. Union County’s towns are at the heart of its heritage, each one helping shape the landscape, culture, and sense of belonging that make Union County a special place to call home.
Stallings is a key part of that special place. We are truly grateful for our heritage in Union County which helps Stallings to be the Town that is exactly How Home Should Feel.
