Spring Showers & Storm Water Smarts

Spring is just around the corner - bringing warmer days, blooming flowers, and plenty of rain. While those spring showers help our landscapes grow, they also put our storm water system to the test.

In our Town, if the storm water system is on public property, Stallings maintains the system. The system can include storm drains, pipes, culverts, and drainage ditches located in public rights-of-way and easements. Town crews inspect infrastructure, clear debris, and reduce the risk of flooding.
All of that work is possible with the help of the Town’s storm water utility fee. The fee also helps our Storm Water Staff stay in compliance with federal and state water quality requirements and investigate any spills or illegal dumping.
However, storm water management is a shared responsibility. Property owners are responsible for maintaining drainage features on their own property and helping prevent pollution from entering the system. Simple steps—like keeping leaves and grass clippings out of storm drains, picking up pet waste, and avoiding dumping anything into drains—help protect our waterways and reduce strain on the system.
As we enjoy the beauty of spring, a little awareness goes a long way. Working together, we can keep our storm water system functioning properly and Stallings safe and resilient... just how Home should feel.
